every year on drone day i try to share some sort of long form piece, always live off the floor, no mix, no edits, just one fell swoop
this year i was stationed on my sister's farm, tending the animals and grazing about myslef
i set up a small station in the living room, the large bay window revealing rolling hills as far as i can see
there's random groups of deer hiking and packs of feral turkeys that roam the empty farm fields like gangs aimlessly looking for trouble
my sisters dogs lay at my feet while the cats sniff the length of cables strewn across their floor
i keep an eye on the tiny horse and the trio of donkeys outside while getting day drunk and eating edibles
so this is the result of my drone day afternoon
just for fun
because sometimes it's nice to remember that that's why we do this

he's a treasure in this life for anyone who knows him
a lighthouse in the foggy seas of this often soul crushing world
his birthday was the day after these recordings, i thought of him fondly
we used to host a live drone day event for many years until the pandy happened, so it's a special day in our hearts, it's how we bonded the very first time seven years ago
he's the host of the radio show thee stillness + thee dancing
he's the one who champions us music makers and shines a quiet light upon us and shares it with the keen ears far and wide
he's a man who finds the beauty in all of life's hardships and i admire that immensely, to wipe a tear is akin to blowing dust of the old box of treasures you just found,
