Staring At The Sweeps of The Shore

about

There's a section of this song I wrote around the time my first son Roenigk was born. A sweet lullaby for the breaths he'd take as he fell asleep. It recently grew into more. It has morphed into a song dedicated to him and his baby brother, who we await the arrival of, any day now. It's also the anniversary of the passing of my own father, a loss I seem to struggle with more and more as my own family grows without him around to take part or witness or at the very least ... leave some commentary.

My father would have loved these boys as much as I do. This I know.
Recently explaining to my 2 year old Roe why he hasn't met 'my dad' is the first of many hard conversations I'm sure to have with my sons. At least this one was harder for me than for him.

Some days can be obscured by beams of sorrow even when listening to the footsteps of the living ones who are still here on the ground.

Hopefully this wood box with it's steel strings can somehow help me keep a connection between my dad and my boys while I stare at the sweeps of the shore on Crystal Lake.
